Not-for-profit realizes vision in the cloud

Since 1822, the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales (RAS) has influenced the direction and development of Australian agriculture.

Today, the not-for-profit corporation coordinates Sydney Royal competitions and events including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, acts as a guardian for the state’s agricultural heritage, celebrates the country’s achievements in agriculture, and works to ensure Australia remains a successful and inventive agricultural producer.

Using Big Data for big improvements

In an effort to learn more about the attendees at their events, including which venues people enjoyed most and where they planned to spend their money, the RAS sought an efficient way to gain more insight into foot traffic patterns at their Shows. By understanding visitor behavior, the Society knew they would be better equipped to truly improve the experience for all Showgoers.

After evaluating the Episerver Digital Experience Cloud, we jumped at the opportunity, particularly given the solution’s price, ease of use, and feature set.

Eliminating the static

With three unique static websites using three different content management systems, the RAS began their search for the flexibility and convenience of an all-in-one platform from which to manage all of their digital assets. Because traffic to their sites scales from almost nothing eleven months out of the year to over 20 million visitors in a four-week period, a cloud-based solution was a necessity.

With their new Episerver solution in place, the RAS is able to take advantage of new data sharing capabilities to increase insight into traffic patterns. They’re also better positioned for cross-channel engagement.

If we approve a piece of social content like a photo, we tag it the same way as other content and post it to our website, Cale says. But now, we can also post content and pictures from our social media channels to the big screen in our 25,000-foot stadium – and on screens in shopping centers around Sydney.

First-class, real-time engagement

In seven months, the RAS built three new dynamic websites on Episerver. The Sydney Royal Easter Show site was launched just in time for the 2016 event, and now supports 1,900 concurrent users and over 30,000 new profiles. That’s 15 times the number of new subscribers they’ve had in previous years.

Users added over 450,000 items to the new wish lists function offered on the site, providing the RAS with a better understanding of their audience.

Customer service also improved by leaps and bounds. We saw feedback on social media, verified it, and updated out website all within ten hours.

Over the Show’s 14-day duration, Cale’s team made six new releases of the site without ever taking it offline
