Our challenge was to try and get people to choose, design and buy their new car completely online.

The website, which had more than 100,000 visitors in its first week, was designed to keep the buying process as simple as possible and to provide visitors with several different ways of finding what they want.
“It’s like building your Apple Macbook or Dell computer online,” says Joosten. “You just choose all the options and configure your car, then you’ll see the costs and how long it will take to ship.”
When using the car picker, visitors state their preferences in categories such as price, warranty, number of seats, fuel efficiency, and trunk space, and are then presented with a number of cars to choose from. The options they select for their car can be saved in their individual profile, and if they do not complete the purchase, the website will automatically send them a reminder e-mail. Users are also shown special promotions based on their profile information.
Auto.nl adjusts the website to its customers’ needs by continuously reviewing how the site is being used. “We found it is very important to monitor and track, which EPiServer can help us with,” Joosten says. “We can find out what cars people are building, how they are ordering, and so on. It is learning by doing.” “Our goal is to sell 250 cars this year and we are well on track to achieve this.”
