24 clinics from Bergsjö in the north to Hedesunda in the south including 116 dentists, 144 dental hygienists and 150 dental nurses. Furthermore there are specialists within dental surgery, correction of irregularities of the teeth, loosening of teeth, children’s dental care, dental bridges, x-ray and bite physiology. The basic thought behind the Dental Public Service is to provide the county population with a better dental health.

Background:

The Dental Public Service of Gävleborg’s quality work, founded on dental laws and regulations, was focused on when a questionnaire folder was distributed with the purpose to control the quality improvements, or in many cases to control what had not been done. Every clinic was given their own folder and the systematic quality work was carried out in collaboration with all co-workers during clinic meetings. The folder was divided into different chapter areas with a certain number of questions that were to be answered by yes or no, including comments and follow-up questions. As the IT world came closer thoughts about a web based check-list started to emerge and in October of 2003 the first version was available on the intranet. It was mainly built as the paper version, but with many more possibilities. The number of questions has varied through the years and constant updates are being made. Headlines with links was included and current regulations, laws, county guidelines, etcetera, were added in connection to the questions.  

Solution:

Sogeti has developed the new check-list based on EPiServer CMS 4, starting with version 3.51. After careful consideration it was decided that the system should be completely re-developed using X-Forms’ technique. This was made to enable the use of current infrastructure and new functionality in EPiServer.

Except for the about 300 forms, divided into different categories, there are functions to keep track of answers, approval of answers before they are made visible, reports based on form answers, selection of standard clinic, etcetera. There are also news pages and a document archive.

The Sogeti focus during the development of the check-list was to use as much of the infrastructure in EPiServer CMS as possible to be able to produce a web site that is easy to further develop as the need appears.

Result:

With the new checklist the Dental Public Service of Gävleborg has obtained a web site that is easier to maintain and update, containing a new and fresh interface.

”One of the advantages with the online quality folder is that all clinics can acquire each others answers and compare results. Now we can also create many different reports, and as we are moving everything to a more modern IT environment, we can see even more possibilities to explore in the future. In my point of view, the greatest advantage
is to be able to, in a swift and easy way, update and create change as the need appears”, said Stina Renström, Quality Manager at the Dental Public Service of Gävleborg.
