The National Courts Administration

www.domstol.se

The National Courts Administration (Domstolsverket) is a state authority reporting to the Government and functions as a service organization for almost 120 courts and authorities that together build the judiciary organization. The organization has more than 5000 employees and the annual turnover is approximately 5 billion Swedish kronor.

Some authorities within the National Courts Administration didn't have their own Web site, some had older Web sites that were more difficult to maintain and other Web sites were seldom updated. A joint, professional, external Web site was required for the entire organization to make it easier to spread information, reduce the amount the e-mails sent and to keep the information up-to-date. Sogeti, who had previously developed the organization's intranet, were given the assignment to develop a solution based on EPiServer.

One Structure - Several Web Sites

The Web site is big enough for each authority to create its own mini-Web that is perceived as a separate Web site. Authorities that have their own coat of arms can place them in the page header, while authorities without their own coat of arms can use the Administration's.

The graphical profile is constructed so that all the authorities have the same profile and authorities of the same type, e.g. all district courts, use the same color scheme. Web site visitors should easily be able to contact a district court other than their own for certain matters and should not have to think about whether they have surfed to the right place. The new solution is a great support for visitors, who can now solely concentrate on their court matter.

Information on the start page and under certain menus is designed in the same way, making it quicker for visitors to find what they're looking for. By using the built-in functionality, a lot of the information is managed from one place, from where it is displayed on the authorities' own page.

Increased Service for the General Public

The new Web site has increased the service to the general public and it is also easier to update the Web site. The solution makes it possible for each authority in the Administration to create their own Web site, which can in many cases use information that has already been written. The common content can now be created by the National Courts Administration, instead of each authority creating their own content. This means that the authorities have more time to publish information specific to them, therefore providing a better service to the public.

The Web site was launched December 2005. Visit it at www.domstol.se.
