The Swedish Civil Aviation Administration
The Swedish Civil Aviation Administration's previous Web site had technical problems and used a tool that only several editors had access to and could use. When many visitors needed access to information on the Web site, for example when the weather was bad, the site always crashed, resulting in many phone calls from irritated travelers. It was also difficult for many visitors to navigate the site.
Sogeti helped the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (Luftfartsverket) restructure the information on the Web site and outlined the possibilities and limitations of different types of navigation. Accessibility was discussed and the Web site was built according to the requirements that resulted from these discussions.
"Many visitors found it difficult to find what they were looking for on our old Web site. So we decided to restructure the new Web site to suit different target groups, which is slightly untraditional for a government agency like us. The ambition was that different target groups, like travelers, media and those looking for facts, could easily find what they were looking for," says Urban Bergsten, Webmaster at the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration.
One of the most visited application's is the one that displays the status for departures and arrivals at the Administration's 19 Swedish airports. An integration solution updates the Web site every five minutes with information from the air traffic control system. Another function that is appreciated by many is the forum for those afraid of flying, where people that are afraid of flying can exchange tips and discuss their fear with others. The "Handicap Service" contains tips and things to think about when planning a trip and flying.
"A new, common and modern technical solution has helped us create easy-to-use and customizable Web sites, while at the same time cutting costs. By using EPiServer and decentralizing the Web responsibility, it is now a lot easier for us to publish and update information to both internal and external parties, keeping the Web sites topical and up-to-date," says Per Fröberg, Infomaster at the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration.
"Our external Web site can now technically handle large amounts of visitors, for example during a snowstorm. We have also halved our administrative costs, due to the high operational safety of the Web site and the fact that it is now easier for editors to administer," adds Urban Bergsten.
The Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (Luftfartsverket - LFV) operates and develops State-owned civil aviation airports, and is also responsible for peacetime air navigation services for civilian and military aviation, as well as for the training of air traffic controllers. It is also a state enterprise employing over 4,000 people and with an annual revenue of approx. SEK 5.5 Billion.
Sogeti have the most satisfied customers in Sweden, according to the Swedish IT barometer's statistics in 2005.
