EPiServer and MOSS 2007 (SharePoint) - a successful combination
Are you looking for a strong tool for communication and a broad platform for your services? Then consider the combination of EPiServer and MOSS 2007 (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007). The integration of the two products results in a great number of advantages such as easier maintenance, more cost-effective solutions and standardized processes.
Three different scenarios
In this section we describe three different scenarios on how the two products can coexist. These scenarios are based on the actual needs of different companies and organizations today.
EPiServer and MOSS can of course be integrated in many more ways than the three described here and these are intended simply as examples.
A more technical description of how to create these solutions is available under Technical Architecture.
Same technology
EPiServer and MOSS are built on the same technology which in turn facilitates the exchange of information between the two. It can be done for example using RSS-sources, built-in Web Services or through data sources within the .NET-environment.
The two products also have a common platform for portal services, e.g. support for Web Parts. Finally, EPiServer and MOSS use the same Workflow engine, Microsoft Workflow Foundation.*)
MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0
In general terms, all integration mentioned in this section applies to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0) as well as MOSS 2007. You do not necessarily need to use MOSS 2007 to build your new IT-architecture. More information about MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0 is available on the home pages of Microsoft.
Next step is to contact your EPiServer partner
What solution is best for your organization? The answer differs depending on your organizational needs and the look of your IT-architecture. Once you have read through the different scenarios outlined here, we suggest that you contact your web supplier for more information about how to best combine EPiServer and MOSS.
*) EPiServer CMS is built on Workflow Foundation, EPiServer 4 needs an extension for this to work.
