Episerver Names Technology Strategist Sue Bergamo as CIO and CISO
The unified content and commerce platform provider brings on Microsoft veteran to develop IT and risk strategy and lead transformation goals
Episerver, a global provider of a single platform to smartly manage digital content, commerce and marketing in the cloud, announced today that Microsoft veteran Sue Bergamo has joined its senior leadership as the company expands its chief information officer (CIO) role to include a new chief information security officer (CISO) position.
Bergamo brings to the newly expanded role more than two decades of leadership experience in strategic planning, product management, IT operations and infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management, application development and process redesign at Fortune 500 companies including Cigna, CVS Pharmacy, Liberty Mutual and Staples. As Episerver’s first CIO to assume the broader CISO role, Bergamo will continue to drive the company’s long-term IT strategy, as well as its agenda for security and risk strategies, collaborating across departments in support of the company’s comprehensive risk and security assessment program.
“With the necessary global focus on data privacy and security laws in the wake of many very public cyber attacks, we recognize the vital role security and IT infrastructure plays in delivering secure business applications in the cloud in a way that complies with rapidly evolving legislation,” said Mark Duffell, president and CEO of Episerver. “Ongoing investment in our products as well as compliancy initiatives like Privacy Shield, ISO27001, and the European Union (EU) general data protection regulation (GDPR) is paramount to our continued growth and success, and Sue brings the right mix of vision and leadership to help us achieve our goals on behalf of our customers around the world.”
Before joining Episerver, Bergamo was a global technology strategist at Microsoft for over three years, where she worked with a worldwide team of enterprise architects and account managers to execute the strategic development of a range of applications, products and solutions. Prior to her role at Microsoft, Bergamo served in a number of CIO positions including facilities management and food services conglomerate Aramark. She also headed up enterprise data management at global office supply retailer Staples and oversaw enterprise application development for drugstore giant CVS Pharmacy.
“It is a privilege to join a company like Episerver that has a true vision and commitment to driving innovation and digital transformation for all companies on a global scale,” said Bergamo. “In my new role as CIO and CISO, I look forward to driving operations and strategies that align with that vision and that support and protect Episerver’s customers and employees as it continues to grow on the leading edge of content and commerce solutions.”
Bergamo currently serves on the board of the Society for Information Management (SIM), and also co-chairs the Career Development Committee. She is also a member of the CIO Executive Roundtable. During her time with Microsoft, Bergamo served as chairperson for the New England division’s Women and Leadership Committee and as a board member on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Bergamo holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from Post University in Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University.
