Gartner’s market overview of digital commerce platforms

Choosing a digital commerce platform has become increasingly complex, as there is a wide variety of offerings, functionality and service offers. In addition, while ecommerce platforms are the core of the digital commerce market, they are often supported by a number of technologies.

In the Gartner Magic Quadrant, the report lists some of the basic functionality for digital commerce platforms. These include: merchandising, pricing and promotion management; shopping cart and check-out; SEO tagging; product search capabilities; and localization for different countries. However, each platform implements this functionality differently, so it is important to understand what exactly is included and how it integrates with other technology.
