How does Gartner define web content management?

Today CMS is about more than managing content, it is about delivering effective digital experiences across multiple channels. According to Gartner, web content management is “the process of controlling content consumed over one or more digital channels through the use of specific management solutions based on a core repository.” Organizations can choose a CMS that is a commercial product, an open-source tool, a cloud service, or a hosted service.

Why is the Gartner Magic Quadrant for WCM useful for evaluators?

Selecting the right web content management system is a key part of any organization’s digital transformation. The system should support the organization’s business needs, optimize workflows and integrate with other systems. The Gartner Magic Quadrant for WCM helps evaluators and decision makers identify the most suitable vendor and platform for their needs.

Evaluators selecting a CMS should list their specific use cases and business needs for the system. The Gartner Magic Quadrant for CMS helps evaluators assess how each platform can fulfill these needs. Business needs and use cases can include content creation and content templates, content repositories with metadata, library services, website navigation features, content deployment features, system integrations, and real-time personalization.
